A range of three dimensionally connected uranium materials can be prepd. under hyrothermal conditions using piperazine (pyr) as the org. template. The framework material, (pyrH+2)U2O4F6 (MUF-1), is built up from edge-shared [UO2F5] dimers that are corner linked, forming three intersecting one-dimensional channels. MUF-1 is the first open-framework actinide material. The material (pyrH+2)(UO2)2(PO3H)2{PO2(OH)H} (MUPH-1) has also been prepd., it also has a three dimensionally connected structure consisting of four intersecting elliptical shaped one-dimensional channels, the largest channel has dimensions of 13.1 x 7.2 Å.
